Green Lightning is one of the New Jersey brands we stock at Plant Base. It also confuses more shoppers than almost anything else on our shelf. The name covers flower, rosin, vapes, and edibles sold under four different labels. Customers ask us what GRÜV is, whether Strike is the same thing, and why Thunder Bites costs what it does.

This page answers those questions. You must be 21 or older to buy cannabis in New Jersey.

We are a licensed adult-use dispensary at 148 E 2nd St in Plainfield. We do not grow or manufacture anything. Our job is knowing what we sell well enough to point you to the right product. That is what the rest of this page is for.

Who Makes Green Lightning

Green Lightning is a New Jersey company based in Cinnaminson, in Burlington County. It is not a California or Colorado label that licensed its name to an East Coast producer.

The company holds NJ-CRC cultivation and manufacturing licenses under the name Green Lightning Cultivation LLC. That means one operation handles the plants and the processing. The flower in a Green Lightning jar and the rosin in a GRÜV cart come from the same growing program.

This matters more than it sounds. When a brand grows its own input, the extract and flower lines share genetics and harvest timing. When a brand buys biomass on the open market, they do not.

The company describes its own approach as indoor cultivation in coco, hand trimming, and an integrated pest management program. You can read their stated process on the Green Lightning site.

The Green Lightning Family at a Glance

Five names show up on packaging. Here is what each one covers:

Four of those five are made by Green Lightning. The fifth is the one people get wrong.

Why Leiffa Sits Apart From the Others

Leiffa Brands was founded in 2018 in Colorado and focuses on solventless extraction. It is its own company with its own history.

Green Lightning presents and carries Leiffa in New Jersey. The two names appear together, which is why shoppers assume Leiffa is a Green Lightning sub-brand. It is not.

Treat Leiffa as a separate solventless producer whose products you will find alongside Green Lightning’s own. If you are searching for Leiffa brands or Leiffa rosin specifically, you are looking for a different company than GRÜV.

Solventless or Solvent-Based: The Split That Runs Through the Whole Brand

Here is the single most useful thing to understand about this brand family. GRÜV, Thunder Bites, and Leiffa are solventless. Strike is solvent-based.

That is not a quality ranking. It is a genuine difference in how the oil gets made, and it drives both flavor and price.

What Solventless Means

Solventless extraction uses only heat, pressure, water, and ice. No chemical solvent touches the plant.

The common method presses flower or ice water hash between heated plates. What comes out is rosin. Nothing gets added and nothing gets stripped, so the oil carries the plant’s own compounds through to the finished product.

The tradeoff is yield. Solventless methods pull less oil from the same amount of flower, which is why rosin products generally cost more than solvent-based ones.

What Solvent-Based Means

Solvent-based extraction uses a chemical solvent to pull cannabinoids and terpenes out of the plant. The solvent is then purged off, and finished products are tested to confirm residual solvent falls within state limits.

This approach is more efficient. It pulls more oil per pound of input, which usually means a lower shelf price for the same cart size.

Which One Is Right for You

Neither is objectively better. They suit different priorities.

Our budtenders will walk you through this at the counter. If you want to read further first, our cannabis products guide and cannabis compounds guide cover the underlying concepts.

Green Lightning Flower

The flagship line is flower, and the company says it runs over 70 different strains across its catalog.

Growing happens indoors in coco, a soilless medium made from coconut husk. Plants are hand-trimmed rather than machine-trimmed, which is slower and tends to preserve more of the trichome surface. Finished flower goes into glass jars rather than plastic.

Named strains we have seen from the brand include Musk 1, Red Runtz, Specimen X, Super Boof, and Zoda. Rotation varies constantly, and any given week we may carry a handful of these or none.

Our strain guide covers what shoppers report about profiles like these. Browse current stock on our flower menu.

GRÜV Rosin and Solventless Concentrates

GRÜV is the solventless line. It spans both dab-able concentrates and rosin-filled vapes, making it the broadest sub-brand.

The process starts with flower selected for its cannabinoid and terpene profile, then pressed into rosin without chemical solvents. Formats include GRÜV rosin disposables alongside concentrates meant for dabbing.

Maybe you have been buying distillate carts and want to know what people mean by full-spectrum flavor. GRÜV rosin is the category to try. Expect to pay more than you would for a comparable distillate cart, for the yield reason covered above.

See what is in stock on our concentrates page and vape menu.

Strike Vapes

Strike is the solvent-based counterpart to GRÜV, built around all-in-one devices.

An all-in-one holds the oil and the battery in a single unit. Nothing screws together, and you do not need a separate 510 battery. Shoppers searching for a Strike disposable vape are looking for this format.

Strike AIO devices come in 0.5g, 1g, and 2g sizes. The 2g option is worth knowing about if you go through carts quickly, since larger formats usually cost less per gram.

The brand describes some Strike offerings as strain-specific, meaning the oil is tied to a particular cultivar rather than blended. Check the packaging in store to see which strain a given Strike vape carries.

Thunder Bites Edibles

Thunder Bites is the edible line, and it is unusual in a way worth calling out.

Most cannabis edibles are made with distillate, because distillate is cheap and flavorless. Thunder Bites edibles use solventless rosin and hash rosin instead. The products are also vegan.

Two formats exist:

Rosin-infused edibles carry more of the plant’s original compounds than distillate edibles do. Many shoppers report the experience feels different, though individual results vary and nothing here is medical advice.

One practical note that applies to all edibles. Effects can take 45 minutes to two hours to arrive fully. Start low, wait, and do not stack doses before you know how a product affects you. New Jersey’s own safe consumption guidance makes the same point.

Leiffa Rosin

Leiffa is the Colorado solventless specialist described above, with products available in New Jersey under the Leiffa name.

Two formats appear in the New Jersey market: a Leiffa rosin cartridge at 500mg, and a cold cure at 1g.

Cold cure is worth explaining because most shoppers have not encountered the term. It refers to rosin cured at lower temperatures over a longer period. The process tends to preserve more volatile aromatic compounds than a warm cure does, and it produces a distinctive texture. Among solventless products, cold cure is generally treated as a connoisseur format.

If you already know rosin and want to go deeper, this is the corner of the shelf to look at.

How Much You Can Buy in One Visit

Because this brand family spans vapes, concentrates, and edibles, New Jersey’s purchase limits are genuinely relevant here. They work by category, not by dollar amount, and most brand pages never mention them.

Per the NJ-CRC, one transaction allows up to:

You can mix categories, and the limits scale proportionally. Half an ounce of flower plus 2 grams of concentrate is one valid combination.

State law also lets adults 21 and over possess up to 6 ounces total. Retail sales carry New Jersey sales tax of 6.625%, plus a social equity excise fee. Plainfield may add a local cannabis transfer tax on top.

Verify any of this through the NJ-CRC consumer FAQ, or read our plain-English summary of New Jersey cannabis laws.

What the Brand Publishes, and What It Does Not

We would rather set expectations accurately than oversell.

Green Lightning does not publish THC percentages, milligram dosing, or lab results on its public website. Descriptions there are qualitative, using phrases like high potency rather than numbers.

That is not a red flag on its own. Every cannabis product sold legally in New Jersey is batch tested before it reaches a shelf. The numbers are printed on the package you actually receive.

It does mean you should read the label, not the marketing. When you are in the store, check the package for:
